BBC Sports Personality of The Year Odds: Who’s winning the crown in 2022?

It's almost time for SPOTY 2022.

With 2022 winding down it’s time for Gary Lineker and the gang to dust off the tuxedos and start the annual argument about whether the Sports Personality Of The Year is really about personality or achievement.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

The answer is, of course, the latter but let’s leave that for Twitter to conflate and confuse because we’re only interested in who’s winning the thing and, more specifically, the odds and prices for the 2022 Sports Personality Of The Year contenders. Let’s get into it.

Beth Mead

Lioness Beth Mead is the overwhelming favourite after she helped England win Euro 2022 on home soil. While it was Chloe Kelly’s iconic goal and celebration in extra time that proved key in their 2-1 final victory over Germany, Mead was crowned as the player of the tournament after bagging six goals and five assists on the way to glory.

Ben Stokes

England men’s cricket Test captain Ben Stokes continued his sensational form with bat and ball in 2022, helping Jos Buttler’s side to T20 glory as well as revolutionising the longer form of the game with his and coach Brendon McCullum’s ‘Bazball’ approach. It’ll be a big job to overhaul Mead but if anyone can pull it out of the fire it’s Stokes.

Ronnie O’Sullivan

Ronnie O’Sullivan is high on the list as a tribute to his groundbreaking legacy more than anything. Now 47, he was also on the list in 2020. In 2022 he equaled Steve Davis’s 30 Crucible appearances in winning the World Championship.

Natasha Jonas

38-year-old Liverpudlian Natasha Jonas has had a memorable 2022, claiming the WBO female junior-middleweight, WBC female super-welterweight and IBF Light middleweight titles.

Jessica Gadirova

Gymnast Jessica Gadirova has contined to impress with her performances for Great Britain, picking up six golds across the English and British championships as well as golds, silvers and a bronze at the European and Worlds this calendar year.

Leon Edwards

Reigning UFC welterweight champ Leon Edwards is the last of our main contenders following his knockout win over Kamaru Usman at UFC 278 back in August.
