The first of Friday’s Men’s semi-finals pits together two exciting young players as Alexander Zverev takes on Stefanos Tsitsipas. After a stumble against Oscar Otte in the first round, going down two sets to love, it has been relatively straightforward for Zverev, who hasn’t dropped a set since. He also looked in good form against Davidovich Fokina in the quarter-final.
It’s been a strong season for Tsitsipas and he entered the tournament as third-favourite behind Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic. He has reached the semi-final stage for the second year in a row and will be confident after overcoming Daniel Medvedev in the previous round in straight sets. It is set to be a tight game, with two players who are yet to win a slam and only Zverev having previously made it to a final. I can see more than one set going all the way.
In one of the most renowned rivalries in tennis, Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal meet for the 58th time, with Djokovic currently leading 29-28. The Serb has had a mixed season on clay building up to the French Open and was pushed hard by Italian teenager Lorenzo Musetti in the fourth round before overcoming another Italian, Matteo Berrettini, in the quarter-final. He will now face one of the biggest challenges in the sport.
Nadal, on the other hand, has continued to dominate Roland Garros, reaching a 14th semi-final and he has a 100% record in them so far. He has only dropped one set in this year’s tournament, in the quarter-final against a fired-up Diego Schwartzman, and I expect him to overcome Djokovic in four sets.
