1pm: Lulu Sun v Donna Vekic – Lulu Sun to win at least one set

Lulu Sun’s victory over British hopeful Emma Raducanu on Sunday was a shock but it was by no means undeserved. The New Zealander dominated the rallies and smacked 52 winners, refusing to be overawed by the occasion.

If the world number 123 is as accurate with her groundstrokes on No. 1 Court on Tuesday, she has a great chance of becoming the first qualifier to reach the semi-finals of the women’s singles since 1999.

I am surprised to see the odds as lopsided as they are, even though Donna Vekic has Grand Slam quarter-final experiences to draw upon. Three of the Croatian’s four matches at this year’s Championships have gone the distance, and Sun can ensure the same occurs here.

1:30pm: Jannik Sinner v Daniil Medvedev – Medvedev +5.5 game handicap

It has been an unspectacular passage through to week two of Wimbledon for Daniil Medvedev who, for the second year on the bounce at the All England Club, has had the rub of the green go his way.

In 2023, the Russian made the semi-finals without facing a seed. This year, his fourth-round opponent, Grigor Dimitrov, was forced to pull out of the contest early doors due to a knee problem.

Physically, Medvedev should be raring to go. We can’t be as sure if that is the case with Jannik Sinner, whose hip has been an issue this summer.

The Australian Open champion dropped sets in each of his first two matches at SW19 last week and Medvedev can give him a run for his money on Centre Court as well.

3pm: Carlos Alcaraz v Tommy Paul – Paul +5.5 game handicap

Tommy Paul is on a nine-match win streak on grass and is level at 2-2 with Carlos Alcaraz in their head-to-head.

When Jack Draper defeated Alcaraz in straight sets at Queen’s, Paul was waiting for the Brit in the following round and saw him off. During this swing, the American also holds straight sets wins over Sebastian Korda and fellow Wimbledon quarter-finalist Lorenzo Musetti.

Alcaraz will not be taking this one lightly. Paul has won more of his points in service and return games than the 2023 Wimbledon champion, so 5.5 games looks too big in the handicap market.

3:30pm: Jasmine Paolini v Emma Navarro – Paolini To Win 1+ Points In Every Game In Set 1

Madison Keys’ hamstring injury ultimately allowed Jasmine Paolini to progress to the last eight at Wimbledon but that is not to say that the Italian isn’t a worthy quarter-finalist.

If anything, Keys’ retirement was indicative of how demanding it is playing against somebody with Paolini’s intensity. Every point won against the French Open finalist needs to be earned, and she has been one of the most effective counterpunchers on tour this year.

Emma Navarro, conqueror of Coco Gauff, is the rightful favourite but she won’t have it easy. Paolini has won over half of her return points in this tournament and Navarro is not the most powerful server, so I like the underdog to take a point in every game in the first set.
