11am: Lorenzo Musetti v Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard – Musetti to win

It’s been quite the ride for Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard over the last two weeks. Having suffered a shock defeat in the third qualifying round at the hands of compatriot Maxime Janvier, the Frenchman received a second chance as a lucky loser and is making the most of it.

He took out the much-fancied Sebastian Korda in round one before sweeping aside Yoshihito Nishioka and Emil Ruusuvuori.

Next, he faces a familiar opponent in Lorenzo Musetti, who beat him 7-6 (9) 7-6 (9) in Stuttgart a month ago. It was a match of fine margins that day, but Musetti was the player able to make inroads on Mpetshi Perricard’s serve.

Musetti didn’t face a single break point, while Mpetshi Perricard had to drag himself out of eight. Finding himself up against it on serve is no recipe for success, and Musetti can punish him throughout this one.

1:30pm: Elena Rybakina v Anna Kalinskaya – Elena Rybakina to Win & 22+ Total Match Games

Elena Rybakina is the favourite to win her second Wimbledon title after Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff were eliminated over the weekend.

The Kazakhstani star wasn’t at her best against Laura Siegemund in round two but normal service was resumed in her 6-0 6-1 triumph over Caroline Wozniacki on Saturday.

She will expect to see off Anna Kalinskaya but it’s a match-up that hasn’t always been the easiest for Rybakina – they have each beaten one another twice.

The 25-year-old Russian has been strong on serve during the grass court season, so the No. 4 seed may have to bide her time in a close encounter.

3:30pm: Taylor Fritz v Alexander Zverev – Over 42.5 games

Taylor Fritz is the only one of these two players to have made the quarter-finals of Wimbledon in the past, and he is also the only one to have lifted grass-court titles in his career.

Yet, Alexander Zverev is the favourite to win the match, which is fair enough given his position in the Race to Turin, his overall Grand Slam pedigree, and the fact that he has not dropped a set at this year’s Championships.

Zverev holds two victories over Fritz at SW19, but the gap between them in rankings was much greater than now on both occasions and even still, they were close matches that went on for 50 and 45 games respectively.

With that in mind, 42.5 looks low for a total games line, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it went the full five sets like their second-round match at the All England Club in 2018.

5:30pm: Holger Rune v Novak Djokovic – Novak Djokovic wins the match and both players win a set

This meeting between Novak Djokovic and a man ranked as high as number four in the world less than a year ago is as good an indicator as any that things are about to get serious at SW19.

Holger Rune has never been one to roll over for the Serb. Djokovic won the only Grand Slam match between the two at the US Open in 2021, but since then they have played each other four times, all of which went to a deciding set and Rune came out on top twice.

Both players’ serves have been difficult to break this week. They have each dropped just three service games and Rune will feel that as long as he can remain solid in that department, he can generate opportunities.

Djokovic should get the job done eventually, but it might take him four or five sets to do so.
