11am: Badosa v Vekic – Badosa to win
Daria Kasatkina was arguably the standout player on form in the women’s draw heading into her match with Paula Badosa, so the Spaniard’s victory over her deserves plenty of respect.
Blighted by injuries over the past 18 months, the former world number two has had very little to celebrate recently, and there was a chance she would never play tennis again.
It was therefore no surprise to see her overcome with emotion as she defeated Kasatkina, and she can now kick on and potentially set up a quarter-final showdown with Emma Raducanu.
Donna Vekic is not to be simply dismissed, but Badosa’s upside is what appeals.
1pm: Paolini v Keys – Paolini +3.5 game handicap
This fascinating clash of styles could go either way, so I’m happy to get on board with Jasmine Paolini with a 3.5-game head start.
Madison Keys is a four-time Grand Slam semi-finalist and it’s a big surprise that she has never made it to that stage at Wimbledon. Her fast serve and powerful forehand make for a perfect grass court profile, but Paolini is one of the best at turning defence into attack and can frustrate the American.
Paolini will generate break opportunities, and if she stays solid on her own serve she can pull off a victory here but we’ll stick with the handicap bet.
3:30pm: Lulu Sun v Emma Raducanu – Under 20.5 games
Who would bet against Raducanu after those last two performances? The scrappy win over Renata Zarazua is a distant memory and if the display against Elise Mertens wasn’t enough to convince the market that she is a genuine contender for the title, the no-nonsense dispatching of eighth seed Maria Sakkari certainly was.
Not only is the Brit playing her best tennis since her US Open triumph, but the draw has opened up for her and Lulu Sun will do well to avoid being her next victim. The game handicap line would be a fine option, but taking under 20.5 games instead gives us some extra wiggle room.
5:30pm: Navarro v Gauff – Navarro +4.5 game handicap
Having already taken out one superstar in Naomi Osaka, Emma Navarro must see off another if she is to progress to the Wimbledon quarter-finals for the first time in her career.
The world number 19 was almost flawless against Osaka, hitting 16 winners to just five unforced errors and winning 82% of points behind her first serve.
Coco Gauff had similar joy in her third-round match against Sonay Kartal, only dropping three points on her first serve. This all-American match-up sees two quality returners play each other for just the second time and this should be a lot closer than their first meeting which Gauff dominated.
