Tennis Tips: Our 8/1 Wimbledon Day 5 acca featuring Alcaraz and Raducanu in key battles

It's Day Five at Wimbledon and our tipster Ben Smith has volleyed over a cracking Acca.

Wimbledon betting tips

13:00 – Denis Shapovalov v Ben Shelton – Over 41.5 games
13:00 – Jasmine Paolini v Bianca Andreescu – Over 22.5 games
13:30 – Carlos Alcaraz v Frances Tiafoe – Either Player to Win the first set 6-4, 7-5 OR 7-6
15:30 – Emma Raducanu v Maria Sakkari – Raducanu to win

13:00 – Denis Shapovalov v Ben Shelton – Over 41.5 games

Ben Shelton can’t seem to help himself getting dragged into long matches at the All England Club. Both of his outings thus far have gone to a fifth set, and he even needed a 10-point tie-break versus Lloyd Harris to get to this stage. Denis Shapovalov is no stranger to a five-setter himself, having outlasted Daniel Altmaier in a marathon on Thursday.

The pair’s service and return games won statistics are almost identical for the grass court swing, and there is very little to choose between them when you break it down further. Tie-breaks were a feature of their second-round matches, and if that is also the case here, we may only need four sets in order to land the over 41.5 games.

13:00 – Jasmine Paolini v Bianca Andreescu – Over 22.5 games

Bianca Andreescu’s return to the tour is showing signs of kicking into gear. The Canadian came back from the cold at the French Open where she lost in the Third Round to her upcoming Wimbledon opponent, Jasmine Paolini. Andreescu reached the final in Hertogenbosch in her first event back on grass, and she breezed through her first two matches at the All England Club in impressive style.

Paolini, a finalist at Roland Garros, has also looked excellent at SW19 and here we have two women high on confidence and capable of going deep into week two. Paolini’s return game might give her the slight edge, but I’d prefer to side with the overs in total games, as this may well go to three sets like their encounter in Paris last month

13:30 – Carlos Alcaraz v Frances Tiafoe – Either Player to Win the first set 6-4, 7-5 OR 7-6

The Wimbledon Third Round draw has thrown up a rematch of a classic five-set semi final from the US Open two years ago which Carlos Alcaraz won en route to his maiden Grand Slam title. Frances Tiafoe is not playing at the level he was at the time, but this week the American has managed his first back-to-back wins outside of the US since October and can use that as a platform to build on.

Both players have seen each of their matches at Wimbledon so far this year go to a first set tiebreak, and they may follow suit on Centre Court on Friday afternoon. The opening set of their epic battle in New York in 2022 also went the distance. If it doesn’t go to a tiebreak, I don’t expect there to be more than one break of serve in it, so we’ll dive into the #WhatOddsPaddy markets for this odds-on selection.

15:30 – Emma Raducanu v Maria Sakkari – Raducanu to win

Emma Raducanu’s victory over Renata Zarazua may not have been convincing, but it was a different story when she swept Elise Mertens aside in the previous round. Make no mistake, Mertens is a tricky customer, but she had no answer for the Brit’s barrage of winners. It’s the most comfortable Raducanu has looked since her US Open triumph.

Even the 21-year-old’s demeanour after the match was notable. She was all smiles, clearly loving the moment, and ready to keep it moving. Maria Sakkari, ranked ninth in the world, is another step up in class but very few players in the world can live with Raducanu if she replicates her last display. Grass is not Sakkari’s best surface, and she could get blown away.
