Tennis Tips: Our 18/1 Wimbledon Day 3 acca featuring Raducanu and Osaka

Day Three of Wimbledon is here and our tipster Ben Smith has served up a juicy Acca.

Wimbledon betting tips

15:00 – Dayana Yastremska v Varvara Gracheva – Varvara Gracheva to win
15:30 – Naomi Osaka v Emma Navarro – Emma Navarro to win
17:00 – Emma Raducanu v Elise Mertens – Elise Mertens +3.5 game handicap
17:30 – Jannik Sinner v Matteo Berrettini – Jannik Sinner wins the match and both players win a set

15:00 – Dayana Yastremska v Varvara Gracheva – Varvara Gracheva to win

Varvara Gracheva was one game away from causing a huge upset at last year’s Championships as she gave Aryna Sabalenka a scare before losing 6-2 5-7 2-6. A year on, she looks well-equipped to cause more problems for the seeds.

The French national, who represented Russia until 2023, made just eight unforced errors in her win over Lesia Tsurenko in round one and looks like a more capable grasscourt player than Dayana Yastremska.

In a low-quality affair, Nadia Podoroska made life easy for Yastremska, but Gracheva will not offer such a luxury. There is not much between the pair in terms of serving stats, but Gracheva’s return game is superior so it’s a surprise to see the 23-year-old priced up as the underdog.

15:30 – Naomi Osaka v Emma Navarro – Navarro to win

Diane Parry had Naomi Osaka on the ropes in the third set of their first-round match, but Parry’s serve deserted her and the Japanese native was able to recover from 3-1 down in the decider to advance.

Osaka’s odds to win the title drifted despite her victory – a telling reflection of how the market viewed her showing against the world number 53. Her ratio of 34 winners to 38 unforced errors will need to improve, and so will her first-serve percentage of 47%.

Unless Osaka’s level is completely different on Wednesday, Emma Navarro can take advantage of an underperforming opponent. The American reached the semi-finals in Bad Homburg last week and had a poor breakpoint conversion rate to blame for not going further.‌

Osaka ran Iga Swiatek very close in their match at Roland Garros in June. But she has not looked anything like a top player since, which is understandable after a 15-month layoff coming into this season.

17:00 – Emma Raducanu v Elise Mertens – Mertens +3.5 game handicap

After winning her first match at SW19 since 2022, Emma Raducanu likened her 7-6 (7-0) 6-3 victory over lucky loser Renata Zarazua to England’s Euro 2024 victory over Slovakia.

“Honestly, watching the football last night, it was winning ugly – it all counts,” said Raducanu after the scrappy affair. Zarazua couldn’t punish the Brit’s mistakes but second-round opponent Elise Mertens could prove more awkward.

The Belgian number one dropped the first set against Nao Hibino two days ago but got better as the match continued. Hibono couldn’t even force a breakpoint in the last two sets as Mertens remained strong behind her first and second serve.‌

Mertens retired from matches in Birmingham and Eastbourne in the build-up to Wimbledon but showed no signs of any lingering issues on Monday. At full health, she has the game to trouble Raducanu.

17:30 – Jannik Sinner v Matteo Berrettini – Sinner wins the match and both players win a set

Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner was the unfortunate seed to find himself in the same section as 2021 Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini when the draw was made last Friday.‌

Berrettini kicked off his campaign this week with an impressive display against Marton Fucsovics. He needed four sets to see off the Hungarian but that was down to him being unable to find enough first serves during the third set.‌

Sinner also required four sets in his tournament opener, which came as a surprise, but it would be no shock at all if he dropped at least a set to his compatriot in round two. Berrettini did look to be feeling the pace in the latter stages of his triumph over Fucsovics and if this one goes long, Sinner has the conditioning advantage.
