Iga Swiatek v Coco Gauff – Under 18.5 Games
Coco Gauff will move to number two in the world when the new WTA rankings come out on Monday, but she faces an uphill task in her bid for a second Roland Garros final berth.
Iga Swiatek might think that the ‘Queen of Clay’ label is premature, but having only dropped a total of two games in her last two matches, it looks like there is no stopping the three-time French Open champion.
The Pole leads the head-to-head against Gauff 10-1 and has not dropped a set against her in four meetings on clay. They have met at this tournament in each of the last two years and under 18.5 games landed easily on both occasions.
Gauff is in excellent form and with a Grand Slam title to her name she will come into this semi-final with more belief than ever, but even when the pair faced off in Rome three weeks ago, Swiatek cruised to a 6-4 6-3 success and only faced two break points to Gauff’s 11.
Jasmine Paolini v Mirra Andreeva – Mirra Andreeva -2.5 Games
The second women’s semi-final is not the one that was expected, but Jasmine Paolini remained steady against Elena Rybakina, and Mirra Andreeva came from a set behind to upset an out-of-sorts Aryna Sabalenka.
This is the deepest Grand Slam run of both players’ careers, but while Paolini has significantly more experience than her teenage opponent, Andreeva can overpower the Italian just as she did in Madrid in April.
Paolini will make life difficult for the Russian and keep errors to a minimum, but Andreeva has defeated five higher-ranked opponents than herself during this clay court season and looks ready to reach her first final.
