There is plenty of cash on the line at the final Grand Slam of the 2023 season.
The US Open 2023 takes place from Monday, August 28 to Sunday, September 10 and record prize money worth $65million is on offer across the various competitions at Flushing Meadows.
Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek took home $2.6million for triumphing in last year’s singles tournaments so a 15 per cent increase on that sum means this season’s champions will earn a cool $3million.
It payed to just qualify for the tournament proper as players that crashed out in the first round could at least console themselves with a cheque for $81,500. If that wasn’t enough, they also received $1,000 a day for travel expenses as well as $600 a day for hotels.
The US Open was the first of the four Grand Slams to offer equal prize money to men and women and tennis bigwigs are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their trailblazing decision.
