Taylor Fritz v Alexei Popyrin – Fritz to Win 3-0
America’s world number 9 Taylor Fritz has looked in fine form this year with his only defeat coming to world number 12 Cameron Norrie in a close match. He faces world number 113 Alexi Popyrin here and the gulf in class should be evident throughout. Popyrin just got through a gruelling 5 set game against an opponent of much lesser quality. These two met once previously with Fritz winning 2-0.
NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?
Pablo Carreno Busta v Benjamin Bonzi – Carreno Busta to Win
Spain’s world number 15 Pablo Carreno Busta has a great opportunity to progress here taking on France’s Benjamin Bonzi. The Spaniard looked in good form progressing 3-0 in the last round and is still very much an up and coming talent who keeps getting better. His hard ground record is impressive whilst his opponent has struggled recently on this surface and it should be a routine victory for Carreno Busta here.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina v Tommy Paul – Paul to Win
Tommy Paul, a very impressive winner for us on day 2, can continue his momentum here and book his place in the next round. Don’t get me wrong this is a closely matched game but Paul should have the edge and has been in better form coming into this match. Fokina had a tough game the other day just edging out a 5 set match and that may tell here, take Paul to progress.
Leylah Fernandez v Caroline Garcia – Garcia to Win
World number 4 Caroline Garcia has a big chance of not just progressing here but maybe going all the way in this major. She looked sharp and at her best when dispatching of her opponent in the first round only dropping 3 games. Fernandez will definitely prove a tougher test but Garcia has a massive advantage and her record on hard ground is much better than her opponents. Fancied to go very deep into this tournament and should be progressing here.
Taylor Townsend v Ekaterina Alexandrova – Alexandrova to Win
World number 18 Ekaterina Alexandrova has been drawn against world number 135 here in Taylor Townsend and although they are some way apart in the rankings this should prove competitive to a point but we expect Alexandrova’s class to show through in the end and she should be progressing. Brilliant record on hard ground and will be majorly disappointed after last year’s early elimination against Bernardo Pera, but Townsend isn’t of that level and she should have too much class.
