Tennis tips: Our trader’s 3 best bets for Monday’s French Open action

Day 9 action here we come.

Schwartzman v Struff: Set Betting – Diego Schwartzman 3-0

German journeyman Jan-Lennard Struff made headlines in the opening days of this year’s French Open by knocking out the in-form world number 7 Andrey Rublev in a 5 set thriller. By reaching the 4th round here he has already equalled his best-ever Grand slam performance and will be hungry to reach the top eight here at Roland Garros. To do so, he’ll have to get by Diego Schwartzman, however.

Schwartzman is known for his clay-court prowess, and had an incredible run of results on the surface last year, reaching his first Masters final in Madrid, and battling to his first Slam semi-final here in Paris. He hasn’t quite hit those lofty heights this year, but I still expect him to have far too much for the German in this encounter. I have Diego Schwartzman to win 3-0 in Set Betting.

Jabeur v Gauff: Jabeur to win and both players to win a set

The tennis world has been enamored by Coco Gauff since she made her Wimbledon bow in 2018 at just 15 years old, and in 2021 she’s really establishing herself as one of the worlds top players. She prepared for the French Open by winning at WTA Parma and reaching her first Masters’ semi-final at Madrid. She’s had an easy enough run to the fourth round, with her opponent in the previous round Jennifer Brady retiring, but she goes into tomorrows match against Ons Jabeur as the favourite.

Jabeur herself has been impressive in the run-up to Roland Garros, reaching a semi final, then final, in consecutive weeks on the clay at Charleston, and was looking good at the Madrid masters before injury cut her tournament short. The Tunisian responded to an early scare in the previous round against Magda Linette, by tearing through the final two sets 6-0, 6-1. Both players are in great form, so this is bound to be close, but I think Ons Jabeur will prove everyone wrong and sneak the win. Ons Jabeur to Win and both players to win a set is the bet.

Kenin v Sakkari: M Sakkari to Win 2-0 & win each set 6-3 OR 6-4

Sofia Kenin is the highest-ranked player left in the ladies draw, and she’ll be eager to banish the memories of losing last year Roland Garros final by going one step further this time around. However, the American star has struggled to replicate the form that helped her win the Australian Open last year.

The less said about her 2021 clay court season the better, to be frank, after crashing out in the first round of Rome, Stuttgart and Charleston in recent weeks. She’s made a strong start to this French Open, however, and as other top seeds such as Aryna Sabalenka stumbled around her, Kenin powered through to set up a fourth round showdown with Maria Sakkari.

In contrast to Kenin, Sakkari has had a strong 2021 with some notable wins, and she reached her third Masters’ semi-final earlier this year in Miami. The 17th seed has been solid on the clay in the lead up to this week, and her form at Roland Garros has been impressive, notably knocking out World No. 12 Elise Mertens in the previous round. Sofia Kenin is the big name in this tie, but she’s struggled to impress for much of the last year, I see this as an unexpectedly routine victory for the Sakkari. My pick for this tie is: M Sakkari to Win 2-0 and win each set 6-3 OR 6-4.

French Open tips summary:

12:00 Schwartzman v Struff: Set Betting – Diego Schwartzman 3-0
11:00 Jabeur v Gauff: Jabeur to win and both players to win a set
14:00 Kenin v Sakkari: M Sakkari to Win 2-0 & win each set 6-3 OR 6-4
