Marketa Vondrousova v Paula Badosa: Vondrousova wins the match and both players win a set @7/2

Every player loves some cities and their tournaments more than others. French Open must be on Vondrousova’s list of favourites. Still in her teens, she reached the final at Roland Garros in 2019. Her hopes to repeat that success have come closer to become reality with each round played so far. Not just because she has beaten her opponents with relative ease, but also due to many of the top players falling out of the picture early on.

Her opponent this time, Paula Badosa, is in great form at present, having won the Serbian Open recently and also reaching the semi-final in Madrid just prior to that. She comes in as favourite to win this match. Despite this, Badosa had trouble beating Ana Bogdan in the previous round while Vondrousova won elegantly against Polona Hercog, 6-3, 6-3. I see Vondrousova coming out victorious after a tough match with 3 sets played.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina v Federico Delbonis: Delbonis 3-0 @9/2

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has continuously improved his play and is currently on the path to new highs in his tennis career. The 22-year-old Spaniard did not try to hide his emotions after a 5-set grueling win over Casper Ruud and it’s clear the crowd in Roland Garris adores him.

On the other side of the net for the Spaniard will be Federico Delbonis as they go head to head for the first time. The 30-year-old Argentinian is an experienced player and also a leftie – something Davidovich Fokina is not accustomed to playing against.

After a marathon against Ruud and previously, Van de Zandschulp, fatigue might start to play a factor for Davidovich Fokina. Delbonis has invested less energy so far in the tournament, if you simply count games played. Delbonis beat his most recent opponent in straight sets and I fancy him to do the same to Davidovich Fokina. Tennis can be cruel.

Cristian Garin v Daniil Medvedev: Over 37.5 games @5/6

Daniil Medvedev is simply a better player than Cristian Garin – period. After all, he is the current number two in the ATP tour rankings. But it’s not that simple. Garin has beaten Medvedev in their most recent duel on clay. I can certainly see it happening again, but I don’t feel confident enough backing him. Garin, a 25-year old from Chile, has never done very well in grand slams, despite ranking 23rd in the world at present.

That doesn’t mean he will not make Medvedev sweat for each point. It is not going to be an easy win for either player. My prediction is this will be a long match so back the over 37.5 games.

French Open tips summary:

16:00 Cristian Garin v Daniil Medvedev: Over 37.5 games @5/6
16:00 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina v Federico Delbonis: Delbonis 3-0 @9/2
12:00 Marketa Vondrousova v Paula Badosa: Vondrousova wins the match and both players win a set @7/2
