Wednesday 1am: Wawrinka v Fucsovics – Wawrinka wins & both players win a set

Three-time Grand Slam Champion Stan Wawrinka had a quiet 2020 but still put in respectable performances in the two Slams he participated in. At 35, people are beginning to suspect he may be a spent force, but I think there’s still plenty of fight left in the Swiss.

He powered through Paolo Sousa 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 in an impressive first-round display, and now faces the Hungarian Marton Fucsovics. Fucsovics reached the 4th round of this tournament last year, kicking off an impressive 2020, and I think he’ll give Stan a real game here, but he just won’t have enough. Stan Wawrinka to win the match and both players win a set.

Wednesday 1.30am: Duckworth v Auger-Aliassime – Auger-Aliassime 3-0

One of Tennis’ brightest young stars Felix Auger-Aliassime will be looking to really impress this year and progress up the ATP rankings after a quiet enough, albeit much disrupted, 2020. After powering through German journeyman Cedric Marcel Stebe in straight sets in the first round, the Canadian faces off against the Aussie James Duckworth.

Duckworth is in decent form himself, securing his first victory over a top 50 opponent in the lead up to tournament, defeating Ugo Humbert. He breezed through the first round in straight sets and is looking to finally get past the second round of a Grand Slam, where he has fallen five times before.

I expect this to be a routine victory for Auger-Aliassime and I have him to win this one in straight sets, 3-0.

Wednesday 8am: Kyrgios v Humbert – Kyrgios Wins & both players win a set

One of the tennis world’s most exciting and controversial characters, Nick Kyrgios, has been dealt a tough draw against the talented young Frenchman Ugo Humbert in the Second Round of the Australian Open this week.

The often unpredictable Aussie eased through Round 1 in straight sets, but the 29th seed Humbert will pose a much tougher test, coming off the back of a fine 2020 in which he recorded big wins over top 10 opponents such as Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas, as well as securing his first ATP title in Auckland.

Kyrgios has been fired up off court in the lead up to this tournament, and deservedly comes into the tie as the slight favourite, but this is going to be a close call. I have Kyrgios to win the match and both players to win a set.
