US Open tips: A 13/1 treble that could prove lucky at Flushing Meadows

Elina Svitolina v Johanna Konta @ 17.00

The Brit has had her best year to date having reached the semi-finals of the French a couple of months ago, she’s on a run in New York after coming back from a set and a break down to beat Pliskova in her last match. Similar can be said for the Ukranian, she has won 8/8 sets so far including an impressive last round win against Keys.

Elina has never lost to Konta, beating her four times and all have been on hard court. I see a tight match ahead of us and Konta can do well – but I’m not sure she can get past the finish line.

Selection: Svitolina to win 2-1 @ 12/5

Stan Wawrinka v Daniil Medvedev @ 19.00

Medvedev has been the stand-out player of the year, the unlikable Russian has had two finals and a win in his last three tournaments all of which have been U.S Open warm-up events. It’s fair to say he has been the form player coming into the last slam of the year. It hasn’t been plain sailing however as a long year seems to have taken its toll on Daniil’s body.

A few niggling injuries in a couple of his matches is the reasoning behind his under-dog status against Wawrinka. Stan took out an injured Novak Djokovic in the 4th round but that doesn’t take away anything from his performance.

If Medvedev is relatively healthy, he will beat the Stanimal.

Selection: Medvedev to win the match @ 11/10

Roger Federer v Grigor Dimitrov, Wed 02:00

For a player who has completely mirrored his style off Federer’s game, baby Fed has failed to live up to his idol’s reputation since turning pro. Dimitrov has been out of form for the last few years but surprisingly he is having a free and easy ride so far at Flushing Meadows.

He hasn’t dropped a set in his last two matches, having a convincing win against young gun De Minaur in the fourth round. Federer after his shaky start when dropping the first set in both his first and second round matches has been back to top form since, losing just four games to the Belgian Goffin in his previous round.

Is it finally Dimitrov’s time to shine? Surely he gets a set!

Selection: Dimitrov to win a set @ 1/1
