US Open: David Goffin to nab a set as part of our 28/1 tennis traders’ treble

Our boffin fancies Goffin... to take a set in a 3-1 loss.

Roger Federer David Goffin

Roger Federer v David Goffin

Sunday 17:00

Swiss automaton Federer said going into this competition that it’s the best he’s felt in years coming into the US Open – and that looks to be true based on his performances so far.

All things considered, today will be a handy match for him against Belgian stager Goffin, but FedEx has dropped two sets already this competition and may do the same again today.

Ultimately, the money will go on Federer for good reason and even if Goffin takes a set, it’s hard to see this match going to a fifth set.

Pick: Set betting, Federer 3-1 – 23/10

Johanna Konta v Karolina Pliskova

Sunday 18:00

Czech Pliskova has a good record against Briton Konta, having won six of their seven previous encounters.

That being said, it won’t be a walkover for Karolina. I imagine this will be a three set game with Pliskova prevailing.

Pick: K Pliskova to win and both to win a set – 7/2

Diego Schwartzman v Alexander Zverev

Monday 16:00

Based on my reading of the odds, temperamental German racquet-prodigy Zverev is unfairly favoured here against diminutive Argentine Diego Schwartzman.

I think Schwartzman has every chance to win versus Zverev, who can occasionally flatter to deceive.

The 27-year-old South American known as “El Peque” is good value to win here.

Pick: Match odds, D Schwartzman – EVS
