Can Konta Jo all the way? Brit star is Wimbledon favourite after quarter final victory

She shot up the betting following yesterday's match

Our traders have gone and installed Jo Konta as favourite for the Wimbledon title, after the Brit star’s incredible quarter final victory over second seed Simona Halep yesterday. The victory makes her the first British woman to reach the semi finals since 1978.

She won the game 6-7 7-6 6-4.

That monumental victory means she tops the betting at 9/4, ahead of Garbine Muguruza and Venus Williams.

Since the win, we have also priced her at 2/1 to be world number one within a year.

The baking enthusiast has won fans across the country by reaching the semi finals, and across the locker room with her muffins – which we rate at 4/1 to prompt a Great British Bake Off appearance.

In the men’s tournament, compatriot Andy Murray is 7/2 to defend his title.

Both Brits emerging victorious is 13/1, while a British treble – including Murray’s brother, Jamie, in the mixed doubles – is 40/1.

Spokesman Paddy Power said: “Konta has gone from good to Grand Slam with her performances at Wimbledon, and is rightly the favourite to win the women’s title.

“With both of the Murray brothers well positioned in their respective tournaments, we could see multiple Brits feeling very at home with victory.”
