World number four Stan Wawrinka drew the ire of the crowd at the Australian Open yesterday after an eye-watering incident with his opponent Martin Klizan in their first round encounter.
With the score locked at 4-4 in the fifth set Klizan failed to control a shot at the net, leaving him as a sitting duck in the middle of the court. As the point was still live Wawrinka would run up and smash the ball.
Unfortunately for Kilzan the ball would slam into where the sun doesn’t shine and cause him to double over in pain. To be fair to the Swiss player, he probably thought Kilzan would move as he went to hit the ball.
However, the crowd on Margaret Court Arena were not happy and booed Wawrinka for the ‘ball’ shot. To make matters worse he went on to win the match 6-4 in the final set.
