Aaron Taylor-Johnson

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has slowly snuck up the Bond rankings in the last year or so with his role as Archie Reid in The King’s Man in 2021 giving a little insight into how he might fit into Bond plans.

Some recent Craig-style beach shots have seen the rumour mill start to spin and he is currently leading the race to become the eighth 007 despite being viewed as something of a newbie aged 34.

Keep an eye out for him in Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu due for release before the end of 2024.

James Norton

James Norton is someone fans of British television have seen in a suit many times. He is another relative youngster at 39, so could keep the role into the next decade.

McMafia’s leading man has gone on to star in Little Women opposite Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson and Florence Pugh, so you know he can hang with some of the game’s leading ladies. Will Miss Moneypenny be the next woman we see him standing across from in the cinema?

Henry Cavill

Henry Cavill is no stranger to playing the hero, with his most infamous appearances as Superman defining his career to date, but he has looked to swoosh into different roles of late.

The Jersey-born star is keen not to become typecast, and the 41-year-old has recently popped up in Argylle and Deadpool & Wolverine, to show two very different sides of his profile.

He certainly fits the traditional slick look of a Bond but could be a slight throwback from Craig’s brooding style.

Cillian Murphy

No this would be a bold move…Cillian Sheridan’s stock is super high after hopping between TV and film in recent years. The incredible success of Peaky Blinders means he is right in the crosshairs of mainstream Bond fans with his brilliant showing in Oppenheimer adding another string to his talented bow.

He might take some convincing but he potentially fits Fleming’s original idea of a dark Bond better than others.

Outsiders

What about someone from left field you say? Well, James Bond has even been in space before so anything is bloody possible, isn’t it!

Tom Hiddleston has the humour required, and given he usually plays the villain in movies, being the ultimate good guy would be a nice change of pace for British actor.

A few names who were higher in the odds market after Craig’s announcement have dropped down since, but fans will still be keeping an eye out for popular duo Tom Hardy and Idris Elba.
