BBC Sports Personality Of The Year 2022 date and time

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year bash will be held on Wednesday, December 21 from 6:45pm.

It was originally scheduled to take place on the previous Sunday but was rearranged to avoid a clash with the World Cup final.

Gary Lineker, Clare Balding, Gabby Logan and Alex Scott will be on hosting duties for the ceremony, which will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

The BBC Sports Personality Of The Year shortlist of six nominees is headed by Euro 2022 top scorer Beth Mead, 27, who bagged six goals to help the Lionesses to victory in last summer’s tournament.

Jessica Gadirova, 18, earned her place after bagging three medals at the world gymnastic championships including floor gold, which made her the fifth Briton in history to be an individual world champ.

Eve Muirhead, 32, skippered the Great Britain women’s team to curling gold at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

A record-equalling seventh world snooker championship sees Ronnie O’Sullivan, 47, in with a chance of the prestigious gong.

2019 winner Ben Stokes, 31, played a key role in England’s T20 World Cup triumph before skippering the Test team to nine wins out of 10 including a 3-0 series win in Pakistan.

Jake Wightman, 28, rounds off the shortlisting having landed the 1500m gold at the world athletics championship in Oregon.
