Semi Final 1 has come and gone and Ireland have failed to qualify for yet another Eurovision final. “What’s Another Year?” says you, “Why Me?” says I. With Ireland now firmly out of the Eurovision race and planning to create its own breakaway Eurovisuper League, it’s time to focus on picking some winners for night two of Europe’s greatest talent show.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Czech Republic to qualify

Czech Republic have only qualified for the Eurovision Final on three occasions since it’s first entry in 2007 and perhaps that is why they aren’t fancied to qualify this year. However, this song is a fun, upbeat and catchy number sung by Benny Cristo.

I challenge you not be humming “Omaga” after this performance which could see Czech Republic qualify. Mr. Cristo is also a European Champion jiu-jitsu fighter and even competed for Czech Republic as a professional snowboarder, so if it doesn’t work out for him on Thursday, I think he’ll find a new hobby.

Denmark not to qualify

The Danes have won Eurovision three times, but this year’s entry leaves a lot to be desired. Fyr & Flamme’s “Øve os på hinanden” (Try saying that after a few beers), is an 80’s inspired pop song that would have been better off left in the era of Electropop. Denmark’s Scandinavian neighbours will be asking them turn down the music rather than voting for them tonight. Try Denmark Not To Qualify.

Iceland to win semi-final 2

Last year’s would-be winners, if it wasn’t for the small issue of a global pandemic. Daði Freyr’s 2020 entry “Think About Things” has amassed 79m Spotify streams and even entered the UK Top 40.

This year’s song “10 Years” admittedly isn’t as good but still provides that feel-good factor and Daði og Gagnamagnið are a firm favourite amongst the Eurovision crowd. I think there’s a decent chance Iceland will Win semi-final 2.
