Royaume-Uni, nul points? Our traders’ picks for Eurovision 2019

The UK and Australia might be battling it out for last - but can Italy out-sing Netherlands at the top?

Mahmood Italy Eurovision

Saturday night sees us blessed with undoubtedly the greatest non-sporting betting event of the year, the Eurovision 2019. It’s a spectacle we’ve been preparing for since last December with many participating countries holding their own highly entertaining National Finals to send the cream of their singing, dancing and acting crop to the big stage in Tel Aviv.

The Netherlands head the field at an eye watering 4/5 with their emosh Lewis Capaldi-esque love song “Arcade”. However, Australia are hot on their heels at 11/2 with the whimsical Frozen-inspired power ballad “Zero Gravity”. It’s one you will either love or loathe but it’s one our punters have certainly been loving so far.

It was inevitable that last night we saw Ireland crash out of competition in scenes that can best be compared to that of the infamous brother and sister act “Donna & Joe” who represented the nation in Kiev in 2005, but even that unfortunate duo were priced at 150/1, significantly shorter than Sarah McTernan’s 250/1 outright price that was on offer.

The United Kingdom will also fail to bring much excitement, with any cheering or words of encouragement fading slowly into the background when people realise they are amongst the rank outsiders at 150/1 and 6/1 to finish last. Grim.

So, who to pick?

Moving swiftly on to the pièce de résistance – a few tips that will hopefully win you a few quid.

Outright

Italy: each-way at 16/1 – Mahmood has topped the Spotify streaming charts with 35 million more streams than any other country. Simples.

Russia: each-way at 25/1 – Sergey has form with a 3rd place finish back in 2016 and a 1st place in the televote. Oh and he’s a chart-topper too – look it up.

Betting W/O The Netherlands

We believe in Australia at 3/1.

There’s still a bit of value to be had in the extra markets too. A couple of crackers we like are:

Malta Top 10 Finish – 2/1
Germany to Finish Last – 10/11
Norway Top 5 Finish– 5/2
