Big Brother is no longer watching: Is this the last CBB on Channel 5?

Will we be seeing the Diary Room for the final time soon?

Comments

The 2018 edition of Celebrity Big Brother kicked off on Tuesday to its lowest ever January viewing figures, leading punters to speculate that this could be the last series of the reality show on Channel 5.

We are offering odds of 8/1 for the channel to axe the show at the conclusion of this series, as Channel 4 did in 2010.

CBB was dropped by its old host channel following an average viewing figure of just 2 million in the 2009 series and with this year’s opener averaging just 2.1 million viewers, it doesn’t look good for the Channel 5 version either.

This year’s series may have seen an all-female start to the show, but the announcement that ex-footballer John Barnes will be the first male celebrity to enter the house has seen him shoot straight into 9/1 to be outright winner.

Former Boyzone star Shane Lynch – who is also rumoured to be going into the house Friday – is priced at 6/1 to be victorious, only behind favourite Maggie Oliver at 3/1.

Asked about the future for Big Brother spokesperson Paddy Power commented, “With viewing figures for this year’s opener down 1.5 million from five years ago, we could be saying goodbye to the Diary Room very soon. The final eviction of this year’s show might just be Channel 5 giving CBB the boot.”
