John Parrott: Back Wilson to trouble Trump in the World Snooker semi-final

Liverpool's former snooker world champion says the unheralded Gary Wilson could pose problems for favourite Judd Trump in Sheffield.

Trump v Wilson

Trump’s only played Wilson once, it was 5-3 to Wilson in the China Open in 2018, and I think Wilson on the handicap in this might be your bet. He’s getting a 5.5 frames start and while I think Trump will win the match, Wilson might put up a show.

He’s a very good match player, he’s looked very cool and I think he’ll put up a very good show.

I can see it finishing 17-13 or so to Trump in the end, so Gary won’t be far off, and 5.5 frames at even money is pretty big if Wilson plays well at all.

4/7 for Trump and Higgins to reach the final is a bet, and 15/8 for the outright winner on John Higgins looks good too. I’ve just got a feeling John’s on a quest for a fifth world title these last few weeks.

If it is a Trump-Higgins final, it’ll be up there with the best recent finals. It’s probably one everyone tuning in will want to see – fans of Wilson and David Gilbert will obviously disagree with me there – but it would be brilliant to have the old against the new, the tactical master versus the attacking crowd-pleaser.

It should be a great final, but John Higgins at 15/8 would have to be my pick. If he gets through to play Trump I think he’ll get too many chances and he’ll win.
