Watch: This snooker fluke will get you over the Monday hump

It’s hard to watch this and not smile...

While snooker will always be a game that requires tremendous skill behind the cue, a little bit of luck here and there certainty helps.

It may not have brought him a victory, but Rod Lawler grabbed a huge slice of fortune this morning at the Shanghai Masters.

Lawler was taking on world number 15 Liang Wenbo in the opening qualifying round and quickly found himself 4-1 against the home favourite. Coming to the table trailing again in the sixth frame he launched into a shot that had all the hallmarks of a ‘to hell with it’ effort, smacking a red from an attempted snooker.

A few kindly ricochets sent Lawler’s red drifting towards his still moving white ball and somehow it miraculously sent his red into the pocket. The Englishman would benefit from the fluke by winning the frame, but it wasn’t enough to prevent him from losing the match 5-2 in the end.
