2:15pm Wales v Italy – Handicap: Italy +7
Six Nations match at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff
TV: BBC1, Saturday, 2:15pm
What a week it was for Italy. Their first win in the Six Nations championship at home since 2013. They managed to overturn a very promising Scotland side and will now have their tails up going into the weekend.
Meanwhile, Wales suffered yet another defeat at home to France and Warren Gatland’s side are reeling. There’ll be differing levels of confidence heading into this tie and Italy have shown they know what it takes to win in Cardiff. They won their in 2022 and it’s hard to argue the fact the Azzurri have improved while Wales have deteriorated.
I like the Italians to do a job this weekend or at the very least keep it to within a try. Take Italy +7 here.
4:45pm Ireland v Scotland – Handicap: Ireland -15
Six Nations match at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin
TV: ITV1, Saturday, 4:45pm
They’ll be no grand slam for Andy Farrell’s side but the championship can still be clinched here on Saturday. It was the perfect storm for England last week in Twickenham. An early injury to Calvin Nash had Ireland scrambling with a changed backline and not at their brilliant best.
Back to this week they’ve gone with a 5/3 split for that bit of security. They’ll be eager to bounce back.
Scotland had one of their worst days in a while losing to the Italians. Now they face the green machine in Dublin and it’s very hard to see how they’ll get a result with the championship on the line. I’m expecting an Irish rebound. Take Ireland -15.
8:00pm France v England – Handicap: France -5
Six Nations match at the Groupama Stadium, Lyon
TV: ITV1, Saturday, 8:00pm
France looked like themselves again last weekend after their trouncing of the Welsh in Cardiff. A change in scrum half was key to their success with Nolann Le Garrec winning man of the match. He pushed the pace and had good control of his pack.
They return to home soil still looking for their first win at home in the campaign. England also looked like their sides of old with their huge win over Ireland. To be fair, everything that could’ve went right for England did and they caught the Irish on the hop.
Can they do that twice in a row? I feel France will have too much for them. I’m taking France to win and cover the handicap.
