Ireland v Wales
Six Nations match at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin
TV: BBC Two, RTE Two, Saturday, 2:15pm

Handicap: Ireland -23

The path for Ireland is pretty clear. Secure victory over their triple crown rivals and it’s a second successive grand slam for Andy Farrell’s side. Next up for Ireland in their quest is a Wales team that are a shadow of their former selves. In years past the meeting of these two teams have brought many tight games with countless coming down to the very last minute.

On this occasion, it should be very different. Ireland are streets ahead of Wales. Their set piece, their attack, and defence are far superior and it’ll be showcased on Saturday. Wales have managed to put a solid 80 minutes together this season.

Unfortunately for them, it’s come in the form of two 40-minute periods in two different games which both resulted in losses. Ireland have recalled some big guns in the pack with Peter O’Mahony back to captain the side and Josh van der Flier accompanying him in the back row. There’s nothing about Wales that would scare me as an Irish fan on Sunday result wise and Ireland should have the firepower to cover the handicap.

Bundee Aki to Score a Try & Ireland to Win

There can be little debate as to who Ireland’s best player over the last 6 months has been. That man is Bundee Aki. The Connacht centre had an exceptional World Cup campaign and immediately backed that up with his performance in France.

He’ll be hungry to get back amongst the try-scoring ranks this Saturday. Ireland should cruise to victory so this is an enhanced anytime try scorer bet. Take Aki as your man.

    Scotland v England
Six Nations match at Murrayfield, Edinburgh
    TV: BBC One, Saturday, 4:15pm

    Handicap: Scotland -3

The Calcutta Cup is back on Saturday evening and it will feature a Scotland team baying for blood. Gregor Townsend’s men were cruelly defeated by Les Bleus a fortnight ago and only for two last min TMO decisions, Scotland could be on nine points and on route to a grand slam showdown with Ireland.

Such are the trials and tribulations of sport but what better an occasion to rid the frustration than having a crack off the old enemy in Murrayfield. You’d expect a raucous atmosphere in Edinburgh on Saturday.

Looking at their opponents, England haven’t been going all too well. Two wins from two, but they’ve stumbled over the line in both wins against Italy and Wales. The interesting omission of fullback Freddie Steward has raised eyebrows and he’ll be a big loss in their back three.

England just don’t have that flair that Scotland have at the moment and add in the extra motivation to right the wrongs of the last day out, combined with the chance to claim only their second cup in eight meetings, I fancy Scotland to get the job done.

Scotland to Score the 1st Points, Lead at HT & Win the Match

Scotland should be keen to get off the mark early and start fast. Be it a try or a penalty, Finn Russell will be looking to push the pace and put this England side on the back foot. For the reasons outlined above I think Scotland just have too much for England. Their game is a lot more expansive and England at the moment are a one-trick pony. Take the Scots.
