It’s week two of the 2024 Six Nations, and Saturday’s matchups are two tasty affairs. First, Scotland play host to France who are licking their wounds after their demolishment at home by Ireland. Scotland survived a late Welsh scare to eventually get the job done. In the late game, Wales travel to Twickenham with both teams looking for an improvement on their week one performances. We have the best bets for Saturday’s action.

Scotland v France Betting Tips

Saturday 2:15pm: Scotland v France
Six Nations match at Murrayfield, Edinburgh
TV: BBC One

Scotland +5

You could argue that 45 minutes into their game last week against Wales, the Scots had their eye on this game. Nearly to their detriment as the Welsh came roaring back with Gregor Townsend’s side just getting over the line.

This game has been on Scotland’s radar for some time, have no doubts about that. Now while they get a crack off Les Blues in Murrayfield every two years, the chance to beat the French at home has never been more possible for this Scottish side. They’ve improved massively in recent years and are now one of the main contenders for the title.

Their opponents don’t inspire a lot of confidence as they looked lost in their opening game. There was no continuity in their attack and they looked incredibly stagnant without Antoine Dupont calling the shots. The French media is baying for blood so one would assume they’ll come out firing but if Scotland can withstand an early onslaught, doubt will creep in and that home crowd will be a huge factor in the second half. I like the Scots to push France all the way here so I’m taking them on the handicap.

Duhan van der Merwe to Score a Try and Scotland to Win

There’s some nice value here in our #WhatOddsPaddy – Featured market. Van der Merwe was a thorn in the Welsh side on Saturday scoring twice and he looks to be at the peak of his powers. If there’s anyone that’s going to pose a threat to the French defence it’s the powerful Edinburgh winger.

As mentioned above, I feel the Scots will be in with every chance here against a reeling French outfit and having home advantage will be key. There’s good value in this bet.

England v Wales Betting Tips

Saturday 4:30pm: England v Wales
Six Nations match at Twickenham, London
TV: ITV1

Wales +10

Wales might as well have been at home on the couch with you and me for the first 45 minutes of this tournament. Simply put, they were awful. But look at that last 35, they looked like a new team.

They’re flying completely under the radar here against an England team that didn’t acquit themselves too well against the Italians. Saturday’s three-point victory was England’s lowest margin of victory against the Azzurri.

England are really struggling to put teams away and last Saturday was another example of such. Their slow methodical style of play won’t scare Warren Gatland like the fast-running game that Scotland deployed in Cardiff. I think eleven points is too much here and this game should be a lot closer than what the line suggests. Take the points.

Wales to score 1+ Tries in each half, Any player to be yellow carded & Tommy Reffell to be Man of The Match

For our value bet in this clash, I fancy this shot. Wales proved they can score tries last week… eventually, but if the Italians can score three why can’t Wales go over for at least two.

As mentioned in last week’s winning #WhatOddsPaddy tip, yellow cards are extremely common in this age of rugby union with the TMO having an eye on every tackle, carry, and aspect of the game. It would be very uncommon to see a rugby game without a yellow card these days, and it should be no different here.

Tommy Reffell was Wales’ stand-out performer last week, pretty much because he was the only one to show up for 80 minutes. He was a menace in the ruck and immense in his tackling. If Wales are to push England close he’ll have a huge say and is a good pick for MOTM.
