Sunday’s quarterfinals give us another battle of the hemispheres, as England and Fiji clash before hosts France take on reigning world champions South Africa in what should be an epic encounter. We have you sorted with the best bets for Sunday’s feast of rugby.

England v Fiji

Rugby World Cup – Quarter Final
Stade Velodrome, 4pm
ITV1, RTE

England to Win Both Halves

Steve Borthwick’s side went four for four in the group stage including some promising performances. They face a Fiji side who have stumbled into the knockout stages after a losing bonus point against Portugal was enough to get the islanders through.

I’d expect England to slow this game down. They’ll rely on their set piece to get the job done. If they let the Fijians play their open, expansive game they could repeat their heroics in Twickenham a few short months ago. This however is knockout rugby, and England has been there and done that. I’d expect them to lead at the half and get over the line. England to Win Both Have is the bet.

Marcus Smith Anytime Tryscorer, Owen Farrell to Score 12+ points, Any Fiji player yellow carded & England to Win

England in recent times have lacked a bit of attacking flair and Borthwick has aimed to solve that with the addition of Marcus Smith at fullback. He will be keen to impress and there’ll be no better way of justifying his selection than by getting over the line.

Owen Farrell is back at 10. He’s kicked well in the previous high-pressure situations – the Lions Tour in New Zealand comes to mind. If he gets the opportunity he will kick the points.

Fiji’s disciplinary record is always one that seems to derail the islander’s hopes in games. One just has to look at Levani Botia’s yellow card against Portugal as a turning point in their last game. They’ve already had four yellows in this tournament and you wouldn’t bet against them picking up one more. As mentioned, England should have enough to get the job done. If you’re looking for a value bet this appeals.

France v South Africa

Rugby World Cup – Quarter Final
Stade de France, 8pm
ITV1, RTE

Thomas Ramos to score 10+ points and France to Win

This game is poised to be an absolute cracker. The French can call upon their talisman Antoine Dupont for this do-or-die quarter final. Dupont is such an influential player for the French and will be a key factor in them getting over the line.

Another player who’ll play a big role is Thomas Ramos. France’s marksman has been in fantastic form from the kicking tee and I’d expect that to continue into Sunday. Ramos is currently kicking at 86% and he’s accumulated 61 in total so far in the tournament.

In knockout stage rugby teams tend to point to the posts more than they would in the group stage and especially when you’re playing a team like the Springboks you need to take every point that’s on offer. I like Ramos to get his ten and France to march on towards the final.

France to Score 1+ Try in Each Half

No team in the history of world rugby enjoys playing a free-flowing expansive game more than the French. They know where the try line is and the stats are there to back it up.

27 tries so far in this tournament for Les Blues and there’s more to come. With Dupont back in the side, that French attack looks menacing. Jonathan Dante and Gael Fickou in the middle with tournament top try scorer Damian Penaud and young flyer Louis Bielle-Biarrey on the wings there’s no end to what this French side can achieve if they get quick ball.

With a fierce home crowd behind them, I’d expect the French to do the business and in the process, I fancy them to get over the line in both halves on their way to a World Cup semi-final.
