Rugby World Cup Betting Tips
4.45pm: South Africa v Scotland Scotland HT/South Africa FT Pieter Steph Du Toit – Any Time Try Scorer
8pm: Wales v Fiji Fiji To Win Vinya Habosi – First Try Scorer
Scotland v South Africa
Sunday 4.45pm, Pool A match At Stade de Marseille, on ITV1
Scotland H/T South Africa F/T
All the pre-tournament talk surrounding Group B has centered around the top two ranked teams, Ireland and South Africa, and who will come out on top. All the while Scotland have been disregarded. You can believe that this game has been on coach Gregor Townsend’s mind for some time and he will have a game plan to slow down this extremely powerful and well drilled Springbox side early on to keep his team in the game.
Like all-first round games at a World Cup, expect that the game will be a cagey affair at first before opening up as the bodies begin to tire. There is a real chance Scotland keep this game close up to the half and if they take their chances be leading at the break. So much effort will be expelled by the Scottish to keep themselves in the game that they will struggle to contain the Boks once we see the introduction of the “Bomb Squad”. The launch of power and fresh legs off the bench should be enough to see them past the valiant Scottish challenge but it will take some time. I like the price on Scotland HT/South Africa FT.
Pieter Steph Du Toit – Any Time Try Scorer
South Africa rely on their forward pack to get over the whitewash and I’m steering toward one of the backrowers for a try scorer. Pieter Steph Du Toit has been in very impressive form in the lead up to this tournament.
In the Boks first RWC game in 2019, he scored twice, so he’s no stranger to the tryline on these big occasions. I’ll take Du Toit to Score A Try Anytime but if you fancy a first-try scorer punt, he comes in at a very hefty price which looks appealing.
WALES v FIJI
Sunday 8pm, Pool C match At Stade de Bordeaux, on ITV 1
FIJI to Win
A Welsh side under Warren Gatland was once feared by many, but has now become a distant shadow of what once was. With two wins this calendar year and coming into the tournament off the back of a 30+ point drubbing, expectations and confidence levels couldn’t be any lower. The same can’t be said for their opponents, the ever mercurial Fiji.
A very welcome sight over the warm up games was the competiveness of the island nation, highlighted by their first-ever win over England. With both teams trending in the opposite directions, I expect the Fijians to win and to continue to ride their current form this weekend.
Vinya Habosi – First Try Scorer
The Fijians will be looking to lay down the gauntlet early to the Welsh side. In keeping with their team’s values, expect them to go wide early and often. Vinaya Habosi has broken onto the scene and has cemented his place on the wing.
The 23-year-old went over the try line against England in their warm-up game and I’d expect him to use his blistering pace to threaten the Welsh line. Habosi looks like a very appealing first try scorer bet.
