Wales v Ireland betting tips
This is the third season in a row that Ireland will open their campaign against Wales and they won comfortably last year at the Aviva Stadium. It’s also worth mentioning back in 2021 that Ireland were beaten by Wales in Cardiff and that was their fourth successive defeat in the Welsh capital.
Ireland have been in unbelievable form in recent times and they beat the All Blacks in 2021. Since then they win the Triple Crown at the Six Nations last year, an away series in New Zealand in 2022, which is unheard of, and they followed that up with a very impressive victory against world champions South Africa in November.
Andy Farrell has done an amazing job and Ireland could not be in better form ahead of this Six Nations championship unlike their rivals Wales who are in turmoil with just three wins in 12 Test matches in a disastrous 2022 which lead to Wayne Pivac being given his marching orders.
The legend and hero Warren Gatland is back, he left in 2019 having won three Grand Slams but he’s had little time to rejuvenate this Welsh team and Welsh rugby in general is having big, big problems at the moment.
Ireland (-13)
The winning margin for Ireland last year at the Aviva was 29-7 and I know their recent form in Cardiff has been pretty poor but this is a different Ireland team. I’m expecting them to win the championship this year and I’m expecting them to win on Saturday relatively easily by a similar scoreline to last year. In terms of a prediction I’m looking at Ireland (-13) in the handicap market at a juicy price.
Hugo Keenan Anytime Try Scorer
Tadhg Furlong is certain to start for Ireland, he’s returning after injury and in a match that has seen a lot of tries scored by forwards in recent clashes, I think he could cross the line. But the man I’m siding with is Hugo Keenan of Leinster. He made his debut in 2020 and is one of Farrell’s most-trusted players, playing 25 times out of a possible 27 with all of those starts.
He’s a future Lion and I expect a real tough games on Saturday. I think Hugo Keenan could be well placed playing at No.15, full back, to get over the line at some point. So It’s Hugo Keenan Anytime Try Scorer, for me.

Six Nations Saturday Double
There’s two massive games on Saturday and I’m playing it safe, I think this double will potentially be a winner. I’m expecting Ireland to easily beat Wales, bearing in mind Wales’ troubles and Ireland’s incredible form. I think Ireland (-7) is pretty straightforward.
The other game is England v Scotland and I think Scotland are coming in under the radar in this year’s tournament and England have serious problems. I think there’s a lot of pressure on them on Saturday at Twickenham.
It’s also worth mentioning in recent times that Scotland have an excellent record. They won this game last year, recording back-to-back successes for the first time since 1984. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Scotland beat England on Saturday.
In terms of a Six Nations double on Saturday I’m going for Ireland (-7) in the handicap and in the second game I’m going for Scotland (+8).
