Ahead of their St Patrick’s Day showdown at Twickenham, Ireland are a victory away from only a third ever Grand Slam success – and ramming Eddie Jones’ words right down his throat.
The England coach, whose side stand in the way of Ireland, was caught on video (filmed last year) labelling his opponents “scummy Irish”, but they could be more like the ‘yummy Irish’ if they produce another victory on Saturday.
We certainly believe they will and we’re already paying out on Joe Schmidt’s side securing both the Grand Slam and the Triple Crown, more than 24 hours before the match.
Schmidt men were a 7/1 shot before the tournament began to repeat the Grand Slam feat last achieved by Ronan O’Gara and co back in 2009. While, Eddie Jones men – who were pre-Championship favourites – have seen the wheels come off their chariot of late with back-to-back away losses to Scotland and France.
As for the match itself, we can’t split the two teams, with both sides priced at Evens to come out on top.
Asked about the pay-out spokesman Paddy Power said: “It’s been a great week for Irish beating the English at Cheltenham, and we wanted to reward our patriotic punters on St Patrick’s Day who have backed us in the rugby, too.
“Beating England at Twickenham would be no mean feat, but Joe’s boys have proved they have balls during this campaign, and I hope this gives them some Bank Holiday spending money to celebrate a Grand Slam with.”
