Our rugby traders’ three best bets for the Six Nations weekender

We asked our rugby traders to give us a trio of Six Nations punts ahead of a weekend in which England will be hoping to prevent Ireland from wrapping up the tournament...

The Six Nations returns on Saturday and everyone here at Power Tower will be hoping Ireland can wrap things this weekend. A win against Scotland and England failing to match or better Ireland’s result will see us crowned champions on Saturday. We make it just over a 2/1 shot that it’s decided this weekend. Here’s a couple of bets to keep you interested.

Ireland (-10) to beat Scotland & over 42.5 points in France v England

If Ireland cover the handicap they are likely to have gotten a try bonus point. The points total in the England game will go up as a result as they will need to go all out to get a bonus. This bet is related but you are able to back it with all bookmakers. For the more bullish among you, I wouldn’t turn you off the Ireland (-10) & First score of the game – England Try double either. England should go for tries from the start if Ireland win with a bonus point.

France v England: First Tryscorer Jamie George – 12/1

George scores for fun for Saracens and with England probably needing tries they are likely to go to the corner early where he will get the ball at the back of the maul. He’s also a big ball-carrier so could go over that way as well.

Tournament Top Point Scorer: Maxime Machenaud – 15/2

Leigh Halfpenny is on the bench for Wales and there’s couple of whispers that Sexton is not fully fit, making this a good bet. Machenaud should be about half this price in this market.
