Ruck it! Paddy Power pay out on Ireland hosting Rugby World Cup 2023

We’ve turned the bad news to good for our punters…

Paddy Power are today paying out over €10,000 to patriotic rugby fans who backed Ireland to host the Rugby World Cup 2023 in an effort to raise the nation’s spirits after the technical review group recommended South Africa as the tournament’s hosts.

The Irish bid was the 4/6 favourite to host the tournament this morning, but has now drifted to 7/1 following today’s announcement that they are in third place behind rivals South Africa and France in the host candidate evaluation report.

While the Ireland bid team feel today’s verdict from the Rugby World Cup’s technical review group is not “insurmountable”, our traders believe they are now further than ever from the try line.

Asked about today’s bid news Paddy Power, spokesperson Paddy Power said “Today’s decision is a right kick in the nuts for the country’s rugby fans so we thought we’d soften the blow by paying out on Ireland as the winning bid.

“We believed there was a great chance of us hosting our first ever major international sporting tournament but I guess now we’ll just have to concentrate on beating the South Africans on the pitch.”

To Host RWC 2023

1/9 South Africa
6/1 France
7/1 Ireland
