The VAR Room: Episode 1 of our series looking deep inside Stockley Park

You may think they're incompetent tw*ts. And that's because they are.

Video. Assistant. Referee. Three words that will send a shiver down the spine of anyone with even a passing interest in the 2019-20 Premier League season.

Sadly, after much pre-season excitement, the actual implementation of VAR in England’s showpiece competition has been, well, crap.

As a result, almost universal scorn has been heaped upon the people supposed to be applying the system – particularly the semi-mythical, hapless and bumbling TV review-crew sitting in Stockley Park. Who may or may not even exist, such has been their passive acceptance of on-field decisions.

So bizarre have been some of the decisions made in the VAR Room that you begin to wonder if they’re even watching the same match as everyone else – and, if they are, whether they’re watching it through the purple haze of a five-day mushroom binge.

Or maybe they’ve all just knocked off for a round of vegan sausage rolls at Gregg’s followed by a bucket of WKD Blue in the car park?

Well, dear readers, we may have found some answers. Or, rather, we may have simply made up a load of potential answers and turned them into a hilarious series called The VAR Room.
