As part of our ongoing Paddy’s Rewards Club promotion, we recently sent a lucky winner (with a plus-one) to the PGA Championships at Bellerive in Missouri.
Every qualifier for the promotion went into a draw to win this trip-of-a-lifetime, with the first name drawn out of the hat receiving an all-expenses paid jaunt to the US.
Sam and Jack from London were the beneficiaries, and we caught up with them after they touched back down in the UK in order to get their thoughts on the whole thing.

“What can we say? It was truly EPIC!” according to Sam.
“Neither of us have won anything like this before so it was quite an unbelievable phone call to take explaining what we had won. We’re both absolutely massive golf fans and it’s been a dream to go and watch a tournament (let alone a major!) in the US for a number of years. We’ve been to Opens and Ryder Cups before but this was really something else.”
And the pair were in for a bit of a treat in relation to the golf itself, especially when a certain Mr Woods showed up.
“The roars when Tiger was contending on Sunday will live with us for a long time. We were 20 yards away when he stuck his approach to 2-feet on the second hole and then we could just see/hear the crowd going wild on the third green as he almost made an ace and subsequently tapped in for a birdie.
“We then caught up with the leaders again on the 9th green and saw his amazing recovery shot which set up another birdie right in front of us. Again, the crowd just went nuts. At that point I really thought he would do it but ultimately the driver let him down a little too much and Brooks was just a machine.”
As for those complaining about the course’s aesthetics, Sam pays no heed.
“I understand that the course didn’t look too spectacular on TV back home based on reports I’ve read, but it was certainly impressive enough in person. The tournament was brilliant and the leaderboard on Sunday was just stacked full of world class players. The locals were all routing for Rickie and Tiger but Brooks seemed to be a popular winner all the same.
We were pretty much the last people to leave the course on Sunday evening and even managed to charm our way on to the first tee and 18th green for some amazing pictures, including a selfie with Brooks’ caddie and his coach, Claude Harmon. As we walked out we were already discussing the upcoming USPGA and US Open destinations to see which one(s) would be best to go to!”
Things weren’t too shabby off the course either, it seems.
“The all round trip itself was just incredible. First class flights, dining at the best restaurants in town and hospitality at the golf made the entire weekend unforgettable. The locals were incredibly friendly and we were constantly bought drinks by strangers just because we’d come all the way from the UK to watch the golf. We also brought back a lot of memorabilia from the tournament and will be fully kitted out for plenty of rounds of golf to follow!”
Glad you enjoyed, guys.
For the rest of you, don’t forget that the next destination for a Paddy’s Rewards Club winner is Oktoberfest in Munich. That should be a quiet night at the library.
