Wills goes for a Prince Albert – Piercing amount of bets suspend market

We've been punctured where it hurts - our pocket - after some sharp punters took a cut of our generous odds on Prince Albert....

We’ve had to suspend betting on the third royal baby’s name.

After a piercing amount of bets, the bookmaker were forced to stop accepting wagers on the newborn being declared as ‘Prince Albert’.

As late as 6pm on Thursday, the moniker was a distant 10/1 shot – with “Arthur” the heavy favourite, Paddy Power having already paid out on the name.

But overnight there was a flurry of bets – where our traders “couldn’t stop people betting on Arthur” – prompting it to become the odds-on favourite (4/11).

This morning, we’re no longer taking bets on the market.

When asked, spokesman Paddy Power said: “We thought it was Harry and Meghan who would be the untraditional royal couple – but it is Kate and Wills who have apparently opted for a Prince Albert.

“The odds on their third child being named Albert have plummeted over the last 12 hours and we have suspended betting on the market as we couldn’t stop people betting on the name.

“We are now convinced that it’s their chosen moniker, having paid out on Arthur 48 hours ago.”
