Following Theresa May’s announcement that she will resign as Prime Minister and step aside on June 7th, we have priced up who will replace her.
Boris Johnson is the long-standing favourite at 6/4, having recently said he would “of course” stand in a Conservative leadership contest to replace May.
Former Brexit secretary Dominic Raab is second favourite at 4/1, making him four times less likely than Johnson. He previously quit in protest over May’s plans for a softer exit from the EU.
Next up in the betting is Michael Gove (11/1), followed by Jeremy Hunt (12/1), Andrea Leadsom (12/1), Penny Mourdant (20/1) and Rory Stewart (20/1).
Nigel Farage (25/1) and Jeremy Corbyn (33/1) are both seen as outsiders to be next PM.
Spokesman Paddy Power said: “As we anticipated, it’s the end of May, and now we face a battle to see who will replace her from June 7th.
“Boris Johnson has been our favourite for months now, and has seen the majority of bets on the market. Whoever it is will have a major to-do list – somehow sort out the country, Brexit, and avoid being hit by any milkshakes.”
