Paddy Power have been forced to slash the odds of David Cameron making an implausible – and probably technically impossible – return to Downing Street, after a run of bets on him succeeding Theresa May as Prime Minister.

The bookmaker took a handful of four-figure bets last night, prompting the price to tumble from 80/1 to 33/1. That’s despite him not even being an MP.

That puts him level in the betting with Andrea Leadsom, who stood against May to replace Cameron as PM, after he plunged the UKI into crisis with his Brexit vote.

Given he started the process, some punters appear to think he could be the man to finish the Brexit journey off.

Spokesman Paddy Power said:

Just when you thought this Brexit-storm couldn’t get any worse, my traders are reporting that we’ve seen a major run of money on David Cameron being the next Prime Minister.

“I’m not entirely sure of the intricacies – which is Brexit all over, isn’t it? – but we’ve had to slash the odds on Cameron making a comeback, despite not even being an MP. I’m going to find a dark room to lie down in.”
