The odds on a general election in the UK before the Brexit deadline have been slashed as Theresa May faces a vote of no confidence in her leadership tonight.
While Paddy Power make the British Prime Minister odds on (1/4) to see off her party’s attempts to replace her, it’s 5/4 that a general election takes place before the Brexit deadline in 2019.
A second EU referendum is now odds-on at 8/11.
If May is defeated, former Brexit Secretary, Dominic Raab leads a lengthy list of potential replacements with Boris Johnson at 9/2– whose desire to launch a leadership bid will come as a huge surprise to no-one.
Spokesman Paddy Power said:
“Things have moved quickly overnight in UK politics, but not as quickly as Dominic Raab’s last few months – he’s gone from political anonymity to the favourite to be next Tory leader”.
Which, given Theresa May’s stint, is much the same thing.
