The winner of the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize is announced tomorrow, with Donald Trump at 20/1 genuinely amongst the leading contenders.
Pope Francis tops the betting coming in at Evens, ahead of German Chancellor Angela Merkel (13/5), and Syrian civil defence organisation White Helmets (3/1).
But Donald Trump, who has been nominated by an anonymous American businessman for a second year in succession – a certain Mister D Trump, anyone? – isn’t far behind, and actually leads the 22/1 Barack Obama in the betting.
Asked about the Nobel Peace Prize spokesman Paddy Power said: “Our favourite for the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize is Pope Francis – after all, it’s kinda his job to promote peace.
“Less so Donald Trump, who is on the list despite doing his best to promote the opposite of peace with North Korea. We think he’s unlikely to take the award but we’re sure he’ll find solace in the fact that he’s above Obama in our betting.”
