Paddy Power have started taking bets the next permanent Garda Commissioner following the retirement of Nóirín O’Sullivan.
Acting Commissioner Dónall Ó’Cualáin is the 2/1 favourite to replace O’Sullivan, with Assistant Commissioner Michael O’Sullivan considered his biggest rival for the role at 3/1.
Further down in the betting is Assistant Commissioner Pat Leahy at 10/1, while Chief Superintendents Dave Sheahan and Orla McPartlin are available at odds of 16/1 and 18/1 respectively.
Elsewhere, with calls being made to appoint someone from outside of the force we’re also taking bets on the nationality of the next Commissioner.
Here, we make it 1/3 for the next Garda supremo to be Irish, while it’s 2/1 for the appointee to be from abroad.
