The Olympic Games is the world’s biggest sporting event, bringing together countries from all across the globe competing in many different disciplines.
France will play host to the 2024 Games and it’s so much more than just a sporting competition, it celebrates different cultures from around the world as it is watched by billions of people.
This year’s fiesta will be the 33rd Olympiad, with 206 countries competing across the 32 sports that make up the sporting programme.
While traditional sports such as athletics, aquatics and gymnastics are ever present, this summer will introduce three new ones to the Olympic: breaking, sport climbing and surfing.
Paris will be on hosting duty and the French capital becomes only the second city after London to host the games on three occasions.

When are the 2024 Olympics?
The opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games will take place on Friday, July 26 and the closing ceremony is due to take place on Sunday, August 11.
Who won the most medals at Tokyo 2020?
The United States topped the medal table in the delayed 2020 Olympic Games that took place in Tokyo back in 2021 with 113. Great Britain placed a respectable fourth with 58 medals in total.
American swimmer Caeleb Dressel won the most medals of any individual athlete with 5. He won the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 100m fly, 4x100m freestyle and 4x100m medley.
In Athletics, Italian sprinter Marcell Jacobs unexpectedly claimed gold in the men’s 100m and Elaine Thompson-Herah claimed gold in the women’s event where Jamaican athletes all finished in the medal places.
Great Britian’s highlights came in the pool with a gold from Adam Peaty in the men’s 100m breaststroke and for Tom Daley and Matty Lee in the men’s 10m synchronised platform.
When are the big events in the 2024 Olympics?
The Men’s 100m Final on the track will take place on Sunday, August 4 this summer, while the Women’s 100m Final will take place the day before on Saturday, August 3
Wednesday, July 31 will see the final of the Men’s and Women’s 100m Freestyle in the pool. There are gold medal events throughout the games, but the athletics traditionally take place towards the end.
