A turbulent 2016 has come to a close, our traders have priced up the events they expect to happen first in 2017!

A turbulent 2016  has come to a close, our traders have priced up the events they expect to happen first in 2017. This year we saw some crazy events including Leicester winning the league, Brexit and the US election as well as the passing of greats Bowie, Prince and Harambe. What better way to put all that behind you then by looking ahead to the future.

Having had our fingers burned by both Brexit and Trump we have decided to stick to what we pretend to know by focusing on sport for this piece.

From a sporting perspective there is a lot going on next year. Despite the fact we have no major football tournament in 2017, no disrespect to our African readers, there is still plenty to going on in the world of sport.

2017 will see Rory McIlroy have another crack at landing a coveted career grand slam by winning the Masters at Augusta in April. He’s come close in previous years without ever really threatening down the stretch on the Sunday evening, and with Nike rival Tiger Woods back on the scene, McIlroy task could have gotten even tougher. Could next year be his year? Rory getting his green jacket to be the first to happen in 2017 is 11/1 on our list.

After a fantastic 2016, which included victories over The All Blacks, Australia and South Africa, Ireland winning the 6 nations is the leading our 2017 market at 11/4. Joe Schmidt’s men will need to overcome, a potential Grand Slam decider against, England in the final game the day after Paddy’s day. What a weekend that could be for Irish fans.
