Football is back at the Olympics!

France striker Marie-Antoinette Katoto

The Paris 2024 Olympics are here and the world’s best athletes have descended on the French capital in the hope of winning gold.

One returning event where the hosts have a good chance of success is the women’s football competition. 12 of the best nations in the international game will be competing for medals, with thousands of fans expected to fill stadiums across the country.

Many of the world’s best players will be competing, but Team GB are absent after they failed to qualify due to England finishing second in their Nations League group.

Canada are the reigning Olympic champions, but the USA, who have won gold a record four times in this event, are the early favourites.
