Detroit -3.5
I don’t particularly understand this line.
Yes, Detroit’s fate will end up being decided in Week18 when the Vikings roll into town, but the suggestion they’ll be anything other than firing on all cylinders is hilarious given how Ben Johnson calls football games.
He implemented a fake stumble design into his team’s win over Chicago last week, while up three scores, because he thought it was funny.
They do not let up.
San Francisco? Well, they’re out of playoff contention and already facing some tough cap issues. What exactly have they to gain? And who’s suggesting they can even turn it on regardless.
They’re 1-5 since mid-November with the only win coming against the Bears.
There’s no rhythm here. There’s no positivity. Detroit steamroll into this game and take care of business.
Sam LaPorta to score anytime
Last year, LaPorta was being christened as the second coming of Gronk. And that happened for two reasons – one was his ability and the other was the usage.
Well, the ability hasn’t diminished. It’s just that Detroit, by design, scheme certain players open in certain formations and his decline coincided with the increased usage of both Jahmyr Gibbs and Jameson Williams.
Given they spent a first round pick on the latter, it was only ever a matter of time.
However, given teams now have these looks on tape, you’re seeing a lot more touches given to LaPorta who’s finally coming to life in the business end of the season.
Fred Warner is one of the best coverage linebackers in the NFL, but when you generally give them run looks, where LaPorta benefits most from play-action, Warner gets put in conflict.
The Iowa tight end didn’t have six or more targets in any of his first six games this season. Ver the last six weeks, he’s had six in every one of them, including four scores.
Over 50.5 points
Since rightly finding their stride over the last three games, the Lions are a freakshow. They’ve put up 34 points, 42 points and then 34 points again.
They’re doing this with a tonne of injuries on the defensive side of the ball, meaning they even coughed up 17 to the Bears. They’re erratic and they have to be.
One of the biggest detractors from this may have been the inclusion of David Montgomery running down the clock, but he’s no longer a factor. Jared Goff will drop back fifty times in this game, because they now kind of have to.
Jauan Jennings over 62.5 receiving yards
He’s more just the last man standing for Aaron Glenn to combat. Glenn likes to play man coverage at an aggressive level, and he’s happy to do that even with so many stars out. The Niners don’t like getting dragged into pure dropback games, but given Detroit are liable to put up 40, they’re going to need to look to WR1.
And that’s Jennings.
