NFL Tips: Steelers @ Browns in 15/1 Thursday night Bet Builder

Andrew Cunneen says we're going Overs on Thursday night.

The NFL kicks off Week 12 with the Cleveland Browns hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers.

NFL tipster, Andrew Cunneen is all over this one for us and has five picks for a meaty-looking Bet Builder. Let’s get into his Steelers @ Browns betting tips.

Pittsburgh -3.5

I’m well-versed in understanding just how the spreads get impacted for road teams on short weeks. More than ever, it feels like there’s a stark contrast in the NFL: good teams and bad teams.

And as a bettor who typically takes the underdogs to cover the spreads, this year has been a tough one for me. But it’s about time to realise the gulf in class when it comes to coaching and accountability.

Cleveland’s season was derailed by the decision to stick with Deshaun Watson. And he wasn’t benched – but hurt, and replaced. That impact resonates. And even though they came back with a huge win over the Baltimore Ravens, it was clear that having to prepare for a different quarterback with a week’s notice is a huge disadvantage. That explains their win over Baltimore.

Pittsburgh? Their over/under to start the season was 8.5, which is essentially the Mike Tomlin line. He’s never had a losing season in his Steelers career. And while the over was always likely based on history, nobody saw this level of play coming, particularly with Russell Wilson under centre.

Pittsburgh dominate this.

Over 36.5 points

Since Jameis Winston took over, the Browns’ games have averaged 46 points. While I understand the Steelers’ defense is elite, their only game under this line since week two was against Baltimore last week.

This will be a very different game script, a very different environment and a much different feel to their rivalry. This won’t be played out in a tense atmosphere and that shouldn’t result in a close-fought affair.

Jameis Winston, Over 212.5 passing yards

The Browns are set up to be a run-first team. Since Nick Chubb went down last season, they had to pivot to their money man in Deshaun Watson and that was not exactly a wise decision.

Chubb hasn’t looked the same since coming back, which is to be expected, and Jerome Ford, as an understudy, does not possess the same vision and power in his legs.

This team is now resting on the madcap arm of Jameis Winston – which, throughout his career, has been so volatile. But the one thing he does not do is stop firing. So I would not be shocked if the man had over 40 pass attempts here. By that math, a requirement of 5.4 yards-per-attempt seems more than fine.

Particularly because…

Jerry Jeudy, Over 45.5 receiving yards

…Jerry Jeudy is showing signs of the first-round prospect he was when Denver drafted him.

His entire tenure in Colorado was stunted by odd systems and playing second fiddle to Courtland Sutton, but in fairness to coach Kevin Stefanski, the Browns understand that getting the ball in his hands is more important than having him win with his routes.

And given how quickly the ball will need to come out to mitigate the Steelers pass rush, expect him to hog targets near the line of scrimmage.

Pat Freiermuth, Over 18.5 receiving yards

Pittsburgh will come out in two-tight end sets, which indicates run. But it’s always been a favourite of Wilson throughout his career to get tight ends on routes after they fake a block in play-action.

Darnell Washington has benefitted more to date, but the recipe for long-term success lies with Pat Freiermuth. He’s a huge fan favourite in Pittsburgh, and this tally is very low despite his early-season struggles.
