Eagles to Win

Pre-season everyone thought that the dynamism that comes with a Kellen Moore offense would be the thing to take Philadelphia Eagles over the edge this year. We’re at the midway point and the entire thing rests on their running game and a much-improved defensive showing.

Rumours of a meeting between the veteran offensive linesmen and Eagles’ staff encouraged decision-makers to lean on their front five and a generational back in Saquon Barkley, as they believed it was their best course of action.

Well, it’s probably hard to disagree.

As the Commanders come to town, it feels like Jayden Daniels is a very short-priced favourite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year, but he still has not quite gotten the test he needs on the road. Hostile environments? Maybe the NFC North pairings of the Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals?

But both of those defenses are putrid, and the Ravens still won. I think this presents a very different challenge for the rookie, and if he does win here, I think he likely enters an MVP conversation more so than just an award designated for first-year players.

AJ Brown anytime touchdown scorer

But for all that Barkley will get the high-importance touches in the middle of the field, backing him to score a touchdown is dirty business because of the infamous “tush push.”

For those new to the term, it’s essentially an Eagles-only concept that they run when they’re inside the two-yard line. Instead of handing the ball to your best player, they actively keep it in Jalen Hurts’ hands and ask him to sneak it over the opposition.

It takes the high-percentage chances of scoring away from Barkley, so it’s best to focus on better value, and that lies with their best receiver, and a top-five overall wideout in the league, AJ Brown, who will benefit massively from weak secondary play.

Jayden Daniels – Over 226.5 passing yards

Even if Brian Robinson Jr is back here, it feels like he’ll be on a snap count. That means the load falls to Austin Ekeler or Jeremy McNichols, and that’s a lame duck.

They’re going to be inefficient running the ball, so early drives will stall, meaning Philly are up early, and they’ll be forced into a pass-heavy script.

Their best path to winning this game certainly lies in airing it out, as Philly’s front is formidable when they’re challenged on the ground.

Saquon Barkley – Over 14.5 receiving yards

If they block it correctly, this is just one reception for Barkley. In run-heavy games, Barkley isn’t used in the passing scheme much because they try to preserve his touches, but Kellen Moore knows that, while their overall identity has shifted after that veteran meeting, the easiest way to beat Washington is in the intermediate part of the field between linebackers and safeties.

This is where Saquon made his name, not only in New York, but also in Penn State before he was drafted.
