Moneyline: Houston Texans to win

Well, here it is. The most mystifying price of the entire season. I understand the framework around which the pricing is derived of course.

It’s the Texans, fresh off losing their second-best receiver, two weeks after losing their best, going on short rest, halfway across the country in primetime against a good defense and a Hall of Fame quarterback.

But let me tell you something…

One of these teams is good, and finds ways to win, because that’s their identity, and the other team is good, and finds ways to lose because that’s their identity.

The Texans really haven’t gelled in a way that people thought they might in Year Two of CJ Stroud, but they’re here now, sat atop the AFC South with six wins from their eight games, despite having a net points tally of just nine.

The Jets, despite having just a 29-point differential from the Texans, are 2-6. These are the margins to examine when making your bets. They tell you it’s Texans all the way.

Joe Mixon to score Anytime Touchdown

Joe Mixon has been the biggest surprise acquisition of the offseason because of how functional he’s been.

I cannot understand how he looked so jaded at the end of his tenure as a Bengal, then came to Houston, and has legitimate claims at being the best back in football.

With limited options in the red zone with the loss of both Diggs and Collins, who are target hogs and cheat codes against both man and zone, I suspect Bobby Slowik to put an emphasis on Mixon here.

Joe Mixon over 23.5 Receiving Yards

You can also argue Mixon is the second-best pass catcher on the team now after Tank Dell, and if that’s the case, this line is too low.

The Jets are strongest at outside corner, and while their run defense is very stout on early downs, you can use mismatches in personnel here to get Mixon lined up against a run-first linebacker.

My guess is they utilise this advantage early and often.

Tank Dell Over 56.5 Receiving Yards

Well, someone has to get them – and if Tank Dell has been underused this year in the wake of Stefon Diggs arriving in Texas, they’re about to realise their future should revolve around this youngster rather than an expensive rental in Diggs, who has more attitude than mid-90s wrestling.

Davante Adams Under 57.5 Receiving Yards

Apart from the fact Rodgers is hurt, it’s now abundantly clear Davante Adams is not the same player he was last year, and certainly not in 2022.

He cannot separate. His top speed is slower than some of his coaches, and they’re losing. Which, as we’ve seen in the past, is more likely to bring about a trade request from him than an increase in efficiency.
