Pittsburgh -5.5

This is the exact same game they played against New York last week. They’re at home against a team with an elite defense, who are mired in controversy on the other side of the ball.

Yes, you might think that the Giants’ trajectory was never as high as their brothers from the same stadium, but they’re still making the headlines for stupid decisions.

Nobody wanted Russell Wilson to take the job from Justin Fields after his 4-2 start to the season, but Mike Tomlin, who is pretty much never wrong, was not wrong.

Wilson unlocked elements of the passing game that didn’t previously exist, and he threw for 264 yards. He even got George Pickens some relevance.

Going up against a worse defence, a worst quarterback and one offensive weapon? Pittsburgh are en route to another season of making the playoffs despite a clear lack of talent.

4/5
Pittsburgh Steelers Handicap

Daniel Jones under 188.5 passing yards

Some of this is down to the amount of time he’ll have to throw, and some of it is down to the fact that he might not last he full game.

Let’s address the first part first: Andrew Thomas is injured, and he was the only saving grace for this offensive line. The ball is going to have to come out incredibly quickly, and they’re going to have to stay true to the running game to ensure the pressure is manageable to begin with. Neither of these indicates a Danny Dimes-type game.

Now, the second part: Brian Daboll has now tainted the head coach/quarterback relationship forever, meaning that after he pulled him from the game last week, he’s liable to remove Jones from play at any given moment. Particularly if he’s performing poorly; meaning that he won’t get the chance to rack up those free yards later in the game.

5/6
Daniel Jones Under Daniel Jones – Passing Yds

Over 20.5 Pittsburgh points

It takes a while for an offense to find a rhythm. That was clear through the first three weeks. It wasn’t explosive, but it was efficient. The Steelers averaged 17 points per game during that run. But in the four games since then, they’re putting up 27.5 points per game.

So slotting Russell Wilson in here who can make huge throws down the sideline only improves the long-term outlook of that situation.

10/11
Over Steelers Total Points

Malik Nabers over 6.5 receptions

They missed him during his concussion, clearly. And even though he was benched last week, 41 of Daniel Jones’ 99 yards went to Nabers.

This week, to combat pressure, they’re obviously going to try and get the ball out early and often to their stud receiver in the hope he can turn a simple playcall into a house call.

After all, it’s all they have left.

11/10
Malik Nabers Over Malik Nabers – Total Receptions

Pat Freiermuth over 27.5 receiving yards

Wilson really struggles throwing the ball over the middle of the field in obvious passing situations.

So the way the Steelers combat that is by only doing it on non-obvious passing situations. The Steelers run a tonne of multi-tight end looks, and because it suggests a run to the defense, Freiermuth and Washington are often free to roam underneath.
