NFL Tips: Seattle upset Detroit in 11/1 Monday Night Bet Builder

Seattle are setting the pace in the NFC and will keep it up on Monday night in Detroit, according to Andrew Cunneen

Monday Night Football in Week 4 of the NFL season brings Seattle to the Motor City as two potential NFC championship contenders go head-to-head in primetime.

Our X’s and O’s expert Andrew Cunneen has broken down the game tape for the Seattle Seahawks @ Detroit Lions and come up with a belting bet builder…

Seattle to Win

The NFL probably would have pencilled this in as a plucky 2-1 team finding their way defensively against a 3-0 powerhouse.

That might have been how they drew it up, but the roles were definitely reversed in NFL execs’ minds.

The Lions have limped to a winning record after three weeks, overcoming a Rams defense with an average age lower than Leonard DiCaprio’s dates and an Arizona team that could only put up 13 points because Kyler had a typical Kyler off-week.

Aaron Glenn was considered a head coaching candidate in the offseason because he had good ideas, just not the personnel. He plays a tonne of man coverage and saw his team invest heavily into players who could go toe-to-toe.

Through three games, they’re ninth in defensive DVOA which does mark an improvement – but after bringing in Carlton Davis and drafting Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw, they should probably be a whole lot better.

Do you know who’s third in defensive DVOA despite their head coach just walking in the door? You guessed it – Seattle.

Do you know what Mike MacDonald did to Detroit last year? Held them to six points on their own patch.

DK Metcalf to Score Anytime

This is forewarning – I’m calling this a DK Metcalf game. He eats in heavy man-coverage environments. He hammered New England already, whose philosophy isn’t too dissimilar to what Detroit run, so expect similar.

And while Metcalf doesn’t get a lot of first-reads in the low end zone due to his explosiveness, he’s one of very few players in the league who can take a ten-yard slant to the house.

The three receiving touchdowns given up by Detroit so far this season? Cooper Kupp, Chris Godwin and Marvin Harrison. Yeah, there’s a clear pattern here.

Islands aren’t for everyone, Aaron.

DK Metcalf – Over 64.5 Receiving Yards

Marvin Harrison snagged five receptions for 64 yards against Detroit. Godwin had seven for 117 in Week 2. Kupp? Fourteen for 110.

If Metcalf’s averages don’t look fantastic, small sample size aside, you seem to forget he was shadowed by Pat Surtain in week one. Surtain is the equaliser. No receiver in this league can beat him.

When he got free of Surtain? Ten for 129 against New England and 104 yards against Miami.

He’s the clear go-to for Geno Smith, particularly if he needs a big play. And given the amount of single coverage he’s going to see here, this is a very low line.

Jahmyr Gibbs – Over 20.5 Receiving Yards

When Goff was pressured in the past, he would look to Sam LaPorta. We don’t know what’s happened to that relationship in the offseason.

But this will be the first huge test for that offensive line, especially with MacDonald calling blitzes that will take Penei Sewell out of play.

The Rams’ pass rush was anemic, as is Tampa Bay’s. Arizona have some pieces, but nothing like what Seattle can throw at the typically immobile Goff.

The ball will need to come out quick, and that will mean plenty of opportunity for Gibbs to catch the ball.
